Β A newly emerging field within the broader study of science has begun to gain prominence, succeeding areas that were traditionally dominated by the Philosophy of Science and the History of Science. This field encompasses four primary approaches: the sociology of knowledge; a normative approach; the identification of the defining characteristics of scientific knowledge; and an examination of how scientists engage with scientific literature. Additionally, it addresses the role of the sociology of scientometrics within the scientific enterprise. To investigate the growth of scientific knowledge, this unit explores various theoretical approaches and models. It also highlights the significance of social organisations in shaping research agendas and scientific development.
